Hi everyone!
I would like to thank you for finding time to visit my web page and for your interest in IEEE. I hope that this web page will give you the opportunity to learn more about me, my volunteer work and contribution to IEEE and my vision for the future. I warmly invite you to an open dialogue on any issue that concerns you. I am convinced that through your valued contribution and constructive conversation we can make IEEE a better organization!
My goal is for this web page to be a LIVING page, enhanced by your feedback, thoughts and ideas. A meeting point for productive communication and collaboration within the IEEE community – to stimulate creativity and innovation in all areas of engineering, in the academic and societal context and to empower our diverse community of scientists, academics and industrialists from different cultures, religions and parts of the world, to explore new areas of unique contributions to science and society, for the benefit of mankind.
Please browse through the website to learn more about Costas Stasopoulos vision for engineering and IEEE. I will be accessible and eager to listen to your concerns. Please let me hear from you on the issues that are important to you.
Vision for Engineering
Science and Technology has leaped to permeate every aspect of our everyday life. The new global landscape with its increasingly knowledge-based, knowledge-thirsty societies, together with the rapidly changing technological, economic and political environment presents new challenges for the Engineering world: It calls for knowledge produced in academia not to be left on the shelf but to be quickly disseminated and transformed into products and applications to improve and enhance the quality of human life.
Traditionally engineering has been a field with narrow and mostly technical focus. The new global landscape with the accelerated rate of innovation and increasingly complex technology calls for engineering to adopt to an interdisciplinary environment, spanning across many academic disciplines including non-technical ones (i.e. economic, social).
In order to facilitate such advancements and world prosperity society needs leaders who are capable of integrating the technical with the non-technical, whether in academia, business or the non- profit sectors.
